Little Miss Sunshine Part Deux

Let's try this again, shall we? Now that the movie has actually been released, Moe and I are going to see Little Miss Sunshine downtown at the E Street Cinema on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Anybody else interested?

Little Miss Sunshine

Does anyone want to go see the movie Little Miss Sunshine this weekend? It's an independent film so will probably be playing at Shirlington, Dupont, E Street, places like that. It's the one with the dysfunctional family who load up the van and drive to California so the little girl can compete in a beauty pageant. It has Steve Carell, Greg Kinear, Toni Collette, etc and looks really good. I'm thinking maybe Sunday afternoon?

Luray Caverns

Is anybody interested in doing a day trip to Luray Caverns later this month? I don't mind driving if people are interested in going and pitch in a few bucks for gas. It's about 90 miles away from DC down I-81 (past where I-66 ends in Front Royal). Maybe Saturday July 22 or Saturday July 29? Those Sundays also work.

MORE FREE MOVIES

Okay people, i'm not sure how much of this i can take:

Movies by Moonlight 2006

Free Popcorn! Free Drinks! Free Outdoor Movies!

Join us on Thursday, June 29th at the corner of 17th and O Street, NW for the kickoff event of the "2nd Annual Movies by Moonlight at the First Baptist Church of Washington D.C." for the blockbuster "Spiderman". Movies start at 8:30 PM.

This is the first of five nights of entertainment and fun throughout the summer that will not only bring the community together but benefit some of the great organizations that serve the homeless in our area. The showing of "Spiderman" will benefit First Helping which is the street level outreach project of DC Central Kitchen that helps thousands of homeless in our neighborhood each year. All donations collected throughout the night will go directly to support the work of this great organization.

The other movies on the schedule are:

July 13th - Raiders of the Lost Ark
July 27th - Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
August 10th - Life Is Beautiful
August 24thBack to the Future

So bring a lawnchair, a blanket, and enjoy a night under the stars with your neighbors for a good movie and a great cause!
I'd LOVE to see Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. But i'd see any of 'em. Every other Thursday night, at a Baptist church in Dupont. Go figure.

Also, don't forget, a week from Monday is the free screening of Some Like It Hot at the National; the week after starts Screen on the Green. My lord! So many free movies, so little time!!

...and free movies!!

In the spirit of my being flat-ass broke and wanting to do free stuff, here's a list of Billy Wilder movies playing the next several Mondays at the National Theatre (which is where we saw RENT, and i only mention that b/c i had to check):

June 19: The Apartment*
June 26: Double Indemnity*
July 10: Some Like It Hot*
July 17: Stalag 17
July 24: Sabrina
July 31: The Lost Weekend
August 7: The Seven-Year Itch*
August 14: One, Two, Three

I've starred the ones i particularly want to see, although i love Billy Wilder and wil go see any and all of them. Anyone interested? I don't know what quick-type food is around there, but there's bound to be at least a Cosi or something where we could grab a quick bite. The only thing is that movies start at 6:30pm, which i know will probably knock Arista out of coming (stupid firm).

Anyone interested? C'mon, free Oscar-winning films! Marilyn Monroe! Men in drag! Vice of all kinds!!

Okay. Comment if you're in, and let me know what you'd like to see. I'll do some googling of what we can get for supper around the theatre. Yay!

PS -- don't forget Screen on the Green is coming up in late July. I think we had talked about The Band Wagon and To Have and Have Not. Those are also Monday nights but play later (whenever "sunset" is). Woohoo!!

free music!! all summer!!

Hey kids, i just found this, courtesy of DCist:

Fort Reno park offers free concerts every Monday and Thursday at 7:30pm through the rest of the summer. The schedule appears here.

I must confess that i've heard of maybe two of these bands; they're all local, i think, and would require a bit of research to learn more about them (which i'm happy to do if anyone's interested).

The best part is that Fort Reno park is only, like, half a mile from my apartment! So if anyone's interested, we could hit up Subway (there's not much in Van Ness) or something and take a picnic to a free show. Woohoo for free music!

Let me know if you're interested. I'm not picky; any nights are good for me, pretty much, i just like to do free stuff.

Brunch and Movies

Another month, another movie marathon. Come one, come all, to the June Costume Drama movie showing this Sunday. We will be screening "Sense and Sensibility" and "Elizabeth." Last time we met about 11:00 and got brunch and then settled in for some movie watching. Location is TBA, anyody want to volunteer their place? Since I can comfortably seat only about 1.5 people, and my mom will most likely be hanging around, I'm thinking my house is not a good option. Thoughts? Feelings?

Pretty picture of the day:
